We are very excited to announce that the RTD team have been invited by the organisers of the Nyon Paleo Music Festival in Switzerland to come and enjoy the event from 21 – 26 July. The festival, which has been around for 35 years, has become one of Switzerland’s cultural relics and Europe’s most important musical events.
The week long festival hosts 227 000 people and with over 1487 musicians and technicians, Paleo is both a launching pad for new talent and a platform for established stars. Over the years it has widened its range of musical styles and come to include circus and street performances to host 146 shows on 6 different stages.
The friendly merge between the two festivals will serve a number of purposes. Firstly, to give the RTD team an inside view into the mechanics of running such a large and established event as well as a chance to experience cutting edge techniques used by the best European festivals first hand in order to incorporate it into our own festival.
Secondly, because Paleo is an extraordinary global village for the people who go there, each year the World Stage (Village Du Monde) at the festival incorporates the theme, decor and food elements of a particular country. 2010 looks to host a Southern African theme which has lead them to approach our young contemporary festival to give insights into South Africa’s very colourful and exciting atmosphere and assist in hosting next year’s themed World Stage.
What is commendable about both Paleo and RTD which further strengthens our dynamic synergy is the fact that both festivals look to preserve the environment and ensure that people leave the event a little wiser on how to do the same. In 2007 Paleo received the “Green’n'clean Award” accreditation, awarded by Yourope, the European society of festivals. This only cements our shared goals and RTD’s aim to lead South African festival goers into a carbon neutral mindset.
This is an extremely exciting time for all of us here at RTD as international acknowledgement and exposure is an objective we all hope to achieve one day. But, for a festival only in its 4th year to have captured the attention of festivals the world over, is an honour.
