Last year Walking the Daisies and Cycle to Daisies were two of the most successful and exciting innitiatives of the festival. 2010 already sees hordes of people begging to be included in this years campaign! So for those of you who have already entered your details, never fear, nothing is sold out! In fact, we havent even launched the campaign yet, so there are plenty of places left for those chomping at the bit to get on the list. Right now we are getting our ducks in a row to make sure, like everything else this year, its bigger, better, more entertaining and more exciting for all involved!

The colossal three-headed, big-beat, glitch-crazy, electronic beat monster: Liver & Chamber Concept could not get lost between your teeth, the seats of your couch or in a tank factory. ‘Glitched-Out-Big-Beat-Rap’ would best describe the contorted electric flares, with which this titanic fire-breather has seared clubs, festivals and tours across the nation. The journey of the beast has only just begun. Liver samples his original tracks live on stage while Chamber Concept specializes in making the crowd come alive. Allow for two days of post-gig body spasms.
Alib’s vibe is simple: “I’ve been doing this twisted electro shit, messing around with records like daft punk. At the moment I’m more interested in giving people something different, a new take on a track they know, than producing original material.”
Prolific DJ and vinyl junkie Low believes techno is more of a mindset than a genre and continues to push some serious boundries
The Jack Mantis Band is a musical journey, oriented around acoustic guitar with energy driven grooves and soulful songs about love, relationships and living today. The music of the Jack Mantis Band has South African flavours entwined with rock, blues, jazz and world groove. With soulful songs to listen to, and songs of dance.
The number one selling rock band in South Africa’s history is back to spice up Rocking the Daisies with their unique mixture of soulful melodies and stimulating song writing. With a similar mindset and way of life to our rocking festival, the fit couldn’t be more perfect and we cant wait to see them jamming on our main stage!
Rocking the Daisies is South Africa’s premier Music and Lifestyle festival. Taking place in Darling , just outside of Cape Town, the country’s first eco-friendly outdoor festival takes place from Friday 8th until Sunday 10th October 2010. Since the Cape Town based music festival began four years ago more than 26 000 eager festival goers have walked up the Daisy Lane to enjoy some of South Africa’s hottest musical talent.
Musicians from all over the country including dj’s, bands, comedians and performing artists gather in Cape Town to celebrate a music festival series that epitomizes the ideals of ‘play hard, tread lightly’. This motto is incorporated into every element of this music festivals organization. Complete Events are successfully promoting green initiatives and eco friendly alternatives while still being able to let people enjoy a truly South African music festival, situated right here in our beloved Cape Town.
This year Life In Balance have come on board to help us step up our greening practices yet another notch by supplying content for our website and helping show people how they can incorporate their green tips into their own eco-friendly lifestyle.
The online publication allows you to browse their archive of interesting articles, read the monthly newspaper online and use their handy resource guide to find eco-friendly, natural and organic products & services.

Rocking the Daisies presents Red Bull RADAR*
(*Research, Assist, Develop, Advance & Release)
What is Red Bull RADAR?
Now in its second year, Red Bull RADAR seeks to scan SA’s landscape in search of undiscovered musical talent. The competition offers a platform to all those bands, musicians and artists to have a chance of making their mark on the local music scene.
It is difficult enough for bands and artists to get the right gigs to expose their musical might, let alone record a demo to open the doors of prospective venues, record-labels and fan-bases. The band or artist that is selected as the RADAR winner will get to record and produce a demo in the Red Bull Studio in Cape Town; RADAR’s musical equipment laden head-quarters.
The search begins:
Taking place from 9-11 October, Rocking the Daisies is South Africa’s premier eco friendly music and lifestyle festival. Rocking the Daisies and Red Bull RADAR, in partnership with Speakerbox.co.za, are offering three talented emerging bands the opportunity to play on the main-stage at Rocking the Daisies 2009, simply by submitting a basic recording demo!
The best of these three bands will win five days in the Red Bull Studio in Cape Town to record themselves a 4-track demo while living it up like rock stars!
So here’s how it works:
1. From 9-16 September (and for the duration of the competition) create a band profile for your band on Speakerbox Bandspace. Find out how to sign-up for a profile.
2. Go to http://www.speakerbox.co.za/radar/submit.aspx to register your Bandspace URL and sign-up for the competition. You will automatically appear on the ‘Newest Entries’ list on the Speakerbox Radar site.
3. From 16 September, beg, bribe or blackmail your friends, family or random people on the street to vote for your track on the Red Bull RADAR page on Speakerbox.
4. Voting
• 16 September – 12pm on 3 October: Vote for any band you like. By 12pm on Friday, 3 October 2009, voting closes and the three bands with the most votes will be announced that afternoon. These three get to battle it out on the main stage at Rocking the Daisies on Saturday, 10 Oct.
5. The top three bands will be judged at the festival by five of South Africa’s most respected entertainment figures, and the best band will win five days of studio time in the Red Bull Studio in Cape Town.
It’s a no-brainer really. If you haven’t got a basic demo, just plug a mic into your laptop and record your band jamming during practice and get yourself on bandspace and registered for RADAR.
* If you have any trouble with the sign-up process you can mail us at Radar@speakerbox.co.za
Grand prize details for the winning band/artist:
1. Five days of full studio time at the Red Bull Studio in Cape Town to record a four-track demo. Marshall Music will be providing the backline and fresh guitar strings to ensure the band is ready to rock out, and will be on stand by to assist in any way they can.
2. Return flights for up to five bands members from either Johannesburg or Durban to Cape Town.
3. Five nights accommodation at Ashanti Lodge and meals for the entire week – think Butlers Pizza, steak at HQ, yummy nosh at Rafikis and burgers at Royale Eatery.
4. Interviews and support from all the RTD media partners.
5. A slot at Rocking the Daisies 2010.
Says Jeremy Moyle, The Plastics: RADAR winners 2008: ”Red Bull RADAR was an awesome experience for us. It gave our band the opportunity to play at our first major music festival. This year I see the RADAR competition has an even better time slot, which means even more exposure for the three finalists. The first leg of the competition is all about the votes really, so just make sure you get everyone in the world to vote for you, and come October 10, you will be on that big stage.”
Rules and Regulations:
1. The competition runs from 9 September till 12 pm on 2 October 2009.
2. All band members have to be over 18.
3. All bands must be unsigned and unpublished and own the rights to their own music.
4. Have to be an original performer / no cover bands.
5. The band needs to have its own instruments.
6. Any genre of music is allowed.
7. Have to be available for photo shoots and interviews.
8. The three chosen bands have to be available to play at Rocking the Daises on 10 October 2009. These bands are responsible for getting themselves to and from the festival in Darling, Western Cape.
To up our game, as we do every year, we have even more exciting facilities that have been upgraded and improved all for your convenient enjoyment.
Yes we know that the line up is not up yet. That’s because, for now, it is still a secret. Don’t worry though June is close by and so is the release of RTD’s 2009 line up!

Held once again on the estate’s beautiful farm, festival goers not only get to enjoy everything the festival has to offer but also some things not even the most skilled event organiser can control, and that’s the flowers.
The venue is a biodiversity champion, contributing to the re-growth of indigenous fauna and flora unique to that area. Cloof Wine Estate works very hard at contributing to this natural environment. They even aid in protecting rare and endangered flower species like Renosterveld which is a highly threatened vegetation type, mostly because the soil on which it grows is very fertile and therefore these were the first areas in the region to be ploughed and used for agricultural purposes. Therefore the 105ha of pristine Renosterveld protected at Cloof and Burgherspost is an important contribution to global biodiversity.
So admiring the daisies is one thing, picking them is another, no he-loves-me, he-loves-me-not-ing please.
So there’s been a lot of talk about limited tickets, with only online and pre sale available and buying early to avoid disappointment. Let us clear it all up right now.
To make sure that every person who purchases a festival ticket gets the absolutely best quality for his/ her buck, we are limiting the amount of tickets sold. This will alleviate queues, ensure awesome camping areas and put no unnecessary strain on the great new facilities we have committed to bring you.
So all you have to do is go and buy your ticket early and there will be no need for disappointment.
Windhoek is back with its real 100% natural beer, a gift of refreshment from Mother Nature herself.
Once again upholding their long tradition of keeping it natural, Windhoek Draught is bringing the pure, fresh and natural taste of good beer back to Rocking the Daisies. Their promise is simple, no compromise. Windhoek’ Draught’s roots can be traced back as far as the monks in the monasteries in Bravia, brewing their beer the good, old fashioned way.
The Windhoek pledge is to stay true and natural to the monkish traditions, to use only what Mother Nature provided without disturbing the general, natural order of things, only pure beer.
Looking forward to cracking open a cold one at the festival? So are we.
Hold onto your beanies and keep those shoelaces securely tied, preferably double knots to be safe. 26 bands, 22 DJ’s and 13 comedians will definitely see to some serious socks being blown off!
We could list everything you can expect to find at the festival right here, but then what would be the point of going to check out the info page. So what we are going to do instead is give you a little taste of what you’re going to get.
A lot of music, and really great music at that, some pretty admirable green initiatives, a little art surprise here and there, and a weekend experience you’re going to tell your grand kids about one day. You’ll see.
Join the CYCLE TO DAISIES and get 50% off your festival ticket. Not only will you feel good about being kind to the environment, you’ll get a work out too!
